The Zephyr - SLC, Utah - November 19, 1998

On November 19, 1998 I met Duncan for a second time. He was performing at The Zephyr ("a private club for members").
Anyway I was way excited to see him again because the first time I saw him I thought that he was incredible. Well I
wasn't disappointed on the second go around. He put on a great show.
It was after the show that I got his autograph on Humming CD cover. Duncan had gone out to the bus and they said that
he would be back in to sign CDs, etc. Then the lady at the counter selling CDs announced that the line would start with
the guy standing next to me and then the line would go back into the club. Well, that basically would have meant that
I would have to go back in the club and get at the end of the line. I wasn't too excited about the idea. So I managed
to snag Duncan as he was on his way back into the club. He was very courteous as always. It amazes me that he seems to be
so humble. It was just like the first time I met him. I think I'm a fan forever.
DV8 - SLC, Utah - September 6, 1997

Once again Andrea from 107.5, The End came through! She got me two free tickets for the Duncan Sheik / Deep Ocean show at
Club DV8 on September 6, 1997. I went with my best friend, Brad. After getting into the show and sitting down, I overheard
someone mention something about someone being from Orem High School. We asked them what they were talking about since we are
OHS alumni. A girl told us that the members of Deep Ocean, the warm-up band, were all from Orem High. They were actually
pretty good. The main problem I had with them is that everyone of the their songs was way too long and too much instrumentals.
After Deep Ocean, Duncan Sheik's guitarist came out and played a few songs on his own. The bassist and drummer joined the
guitarist for one song before Duncan came out. Everyone went wild. He put on a great show! I always find it refreshing when an
artist is amazed that people love their music. This is how Duncan responded to the applause and cheering. At the end of each
song he was blushing from the appreciation that the crowd was showing. It was almost like he was embarrassed. This would have to
rank right up there as one of my favorite shows.
Following the show most of the people got out of the club. But many stayed waiting for Duncan to reappear, which he did. He was
very gracious to sign ticket stubs, CD covers, or anything that anyone wanted signed. I have never seen an artist more willing to
autograph. There were well over 30 people there trying to get his "John Hancock" and I'm sure that no one went away unhappy!
About Duncan Sheik
Alternative singer/songwriter Duncan Sheik premiered in mid-1996 when Atlantic released his self-titled debut album. With an
appearance on the soundtrack to the TV hit ER, Sheik became slightly well known in alternative circles. Born in 1970, Duncan
Sheik grew up in South Carolina but spent many of his early years living with his grandparents in New Jersey. Inspired to play
the piano while there, he later moved to electric guitar and performed in bands throughout high school. While studying at Brown
University, he played with Lisa Loeb, but began shopping his own demo tape soon after graduation. Later, he appeared with His
Boy Elroy on a 1993 album for Epic, and spent several years writing songs before he signed a solo deal with Atlantic. Recording
with producer Rupert Hine, Duncan Sheik recorded his debut album and released it in June 1996. By the end of the year, "Barely
Breathing" had become a modest hit.
