Fun Friday with a Friend

Last week, my friend, John, was in town and the only day he was available to hang out was last Friday. So I took the day off work. Oh we had grand plans of the things we were going to squeeze into just one day. As it turned out we only accomplished 2 out of 5 activities. Who were we kidding?! It did turn out to be a fun day though.

Activity 1: I picked him up at the BYU Wilkinson Center where he was donating donating blood while on vacation. What dedication! And even though they told him no exercise, we then decided to hike Stewart Falls. :) It has been years since I did it last. I have had friends that have tried to get me to go several times over the last year and it always look as if it's about to rain so I back out. Well there was no rain this time!

Activity 2: After the hike, we went to eat at one of my favorite places to eat: Thai Drift! I had been telling John how great the massaman curry is there. Since he lives in Los Angeles, I was worried that my version of great Thai food might not match his. But I was pleased when he reported that 2 out of the 3 dishes we had, were very good. Yeah, Thai Drift!

I Want My FritosĀ®, and They Better Be Fresh!

Today for lunch my friend and coworker, Jason, wanted to head down to Barnes and Noble in Orem from our offices in Pleasant Grove. Since we were making the "big drive" to south Orem, we decided to eat at Sensuous Sandwiches, an old favorite of ours. We got there and they were doing some hopping business. We placed our orders: me an eight inch Tantalizer with everything and Jason a eight inch Stimulator. We then got our drink and found a seat with none other than our friend and former coworker Robert D. We sat and chatted a while until our names were called. We both then went and stood in line while they were ringing up one lady in front of us that was picking up a group order. Meanwhile they kept on calling out names of customers who's sandwiches were ready. They were getting quite the stack. Then we realized that the woman in front of us was checking the date on each of the bags of chips. She asked the girl at the register, "Don't you have any newer Fritos?" Jason and I just had to laugh. Are Fritos really ever fresh? And even if they are not fresh, don't you think the shelf-life is much longer than a sandwich stop could hold onto them? So next time you get your Fritos, make sure they are fresh!

Paradise Bakery & Cafe

This past week some the guys from work and I checked out the new Paradise Bakery & Cafe in American Fork. It came as a recommendation from one guy's wife. I had never heard of it so I had no expectations.

The place was packed. Everyone loves to try out the new place. Walking in the atmosphere was nice and there were tons of employees. They were either working in the food lines, handing out samples, or cleaning up. I ordered the Turkey Cranberry Sandwich. (Oven roasted turkey with cranberry sauce, mayo, lettuce and tomato served on our Paradise Molasses bread.)

It came with a chocolaty cookie and I added nice big soda. The sandwiches were pre-made. It was kind of nice because you got to see the actually sandwich before you made a decision but on the other hand if you ordered a less popular selection (Jason) then your bread was a little dried out. On the way to pay I got ushered to a separate line from my coworkers. I was just getting rung up when their computers hung. It took them a few moments to figure out what was going on. But soon I had paid and rejoined my coworkers only to find out that they got their meals free because the computer had hung. Apparently I should have staid in the other line. Oh well. I was only out around $10 for lunch. All said, I'm sure we'll be going back again. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Marley's - Thumbs Up

Today all the guys from work went out to lunch to celebrate Rod getting another year older. He's really into motorcycles, so someone suggested that we take him to the new Harley Davidson shop in Lindon which also has a restaurant called, Marley's.

I gotta say that I wasn't sure what I was expecting but I was pleasantly surprised. In case you don't already know, Timpanogos Harley-Davidson is owned my the same guy (Dave Tuomisto) that founded Bajio. So I should have known that the food would be tasty. Even though they have not had a grand opening the place was hopping. The menu largely offers sliders. Sliders are a smaller version of a burger. You can order 1, 2, or 3 in a combo with fries or a side salad and also a drink. (They even have Diet Dr. Pepper and you know how much I love that!) I ordered 2 Marley's (hamburger) sliders with lettuce, tomatoes, and grilled onions. Tasty! You should check it out. I understand that their grand opening isn't until the end of July, but don't wait.
